Gina Lucas is an artist based in Hampstead, North Carolina, where she lives with her husband James. She is the mother of two grown children. Raised in Eastern North Carolina, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from East Carolina University and now works from her home studio. Her work is deeply influenced by the North Carolina coast and by the eight years she spent working as a floral designer, both of which inform her strong sense of color, composition, and organic form.
A self-taught painter from a long line of creatives, Gina developed an early love for art and creative expression, though she did not fully discover her passion for painting until later in life. During breast cancer treatment in 2022, she began painting daily as a way to cope with stress and anxiety. What started as a healing practice quickly became a vital part of her life and ultimately grew into a full-time career she is deeply grateful for.
Gina works primarily with acrylics and pastels on canvas and paper, and has recently begun experimenting with watercolors. Her subjects include florals, landscapes, and abstract compositions. She paints expressionistically, favoring bold color and exploring the dynamic tension between abstraction and realism.
When she’s not in the studio, Gina enjoys reading, playing tennis, thrifting, and spending time at the beach.
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint’, then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”
